Challenge

The current process to charge a very toxic and corrosive chemical from a 100L pressurised drum into a header system required significant improvements to improve operator safety and improved operational procedures which required the area to be cordoned off and personnel to wear full chemical suits with respiratory air connections.

Solution

Following a significant period of design and ergonomic assessment, Howorth developed an UltraSAFE isolator which contained the pressurised drum and associated interconnecting hoses and valves.

Key Features:

  • Gloveport access from 3 x sides of the isolator allowing ergonomic connection of all valves to the outlet nozzle flanges of the drum
  • Stainless Steel construction with Armourcote coating for an enhanced level of protection against the corrosive chemical
  • Stiffened floor with integrated sump
  • Interface flange to allow the isolator to be sealed within the exterior wall of the facility.
  • Drum loading door external to the facility to allow loading/unloading via Fork Lift Truck
  • Interlocked pass box

Outcome

This bespoke UltraSAFE isolator provides a robust solution providing enhanced operator safety without the need for additional PPE.
