Medical Estimating Manager

We are delighted that due to our continued growth, we have a vacancy for an Estimating Manager role within our Medical team.

To manage, coordinate and schedule all activities of the estimating team in response to the demands of the business, from sales through to live projects.

Working Location: Head Office | Full-time

Key Responsibilities

As part of your role at Howorth, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and improve the tools used by the estimating team to ensure accurate and higher quality proposals in a timely manner.
  • Manage department / resource and take ownership of the scheduling of the Estimating Team.
  • Carry out weekly reviews of Sales pipeline to help plan, schedule, and prioritise Estimating Team Resource.
  • Develop reporting processes for Estimators to log progress accessible to both Sales and Operations.
  • Manage handover process from Sales to Operations Team.
  • Carry out site visits and surveys to support sales and delivery teams as required.
  • Review, comment, and support with any commercial aspects as required.
  • Manage and complete all bid opportunities (Pre-Qualification Questionnaires) ensuring timely completion.

Qualifications & Preferred Skills

Recommended or desired qualifications you would need to fulfil this role:

  • Excellent understanding of construction (Healthcare construction projects would be an advantage)
  • Management of people
  • Graduate in field
  • Commercial awareness
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Strong IT skills

Desired Experience

  • The production and compilation of tender responses for public and private sector clients. Including pricing and quality elements of the response.
  • Engage with existing and new supply chain partners to obtain pricing and quality information in support of tender bids.
  • Regularly report to both Sales and Operations Management on Pre Sales Project progress, scheduling and forecasting.
  • Review the pipeline of RFQs and incoming tender enquiries from both the HAT sales department, tender portals and other channels of enquiry.
  • Assist in the generation and control of project budgets.
  • Prioritise, schedule, and allocate personnel and resources to ensure tenders and RFQs are responded to efficiently and within specified deadlines.
  • Carry out tender completions including RFQ’s, PQQ’s and any other forms of bid process as required.
  • Provide input into risk profiling and management on contracts/projects.
  • Selection of contractors for projects. Support as required in the preparation of contracts in a variety of forms such as, NEC, JCT and bespoke.
  • Liaise with operational team to ensure forecasted projects are known and planned.
  • Liaise with Project Managers to establish the project specification and requirements.
  • Able to manage your own workload and co-ordinate with others to ensure structured deadlines are met.
  • Review and analysis of delivered projects to collate costs and feed back into estimating cost database.
  • Develop and maintain supplier database, collating and curating up to date supplier information.
  • Develop and maintain standardised documentation and document sets for issue with tender returns (Technical Specifications, Technical Submissions).
  • Develop supplier relationships throughout the supply chain to maximise partnering opportunities and cost saving initiatives.
  • Continually improve estimating process with a focus on areas such as standardisation of documentation.
  • Management of bid review and project review scheduling.
  • The willingness to undertake additional training to grow with the role.
  • To have excellent IT skills and a proficient knowledge of Microsoft packages including SharePoint and Salesforce.
  • Attend and contribute to meetings with work colleagues and or clients/customers when necessary. Build relationships and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
  • Attend site visits/meetings as and when required and to adhere to the health and safety procedures/requirements.
  • Be aware of the company’s brand and profile and to aid in increasing this through social media/other marketing tools as and when required.
  • Carry out other relevant duties as required from time to time. This is not an exhaustive list and other duties requiring similar skill levels may be required.
