We are delighted that due to our continued growth, we have a vacancy for a Mechanical Design Engineer role within our Pharma Mechanical Design Team.
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing bespoke containment equipment tailored to client requirements within the pharmaceutical industry. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical design principles, industry standards, and client-specific needs.
Key Responsibilities
As part of your role at Howorth, your responsibilities will include:
- To take design concepts and develop practical solutions through effective collaboration with the project team and with external and internal customers.
- Work to a project specification, bringing technical queries to the attention of the wider team as appropriate, ensuring that ultimately the client’s requirements are met.
- Creation of CAD models and detailed general arrangement, assembly and manufacturing drawings to Howorth standard design methodology.
- Through design and calculation, specify 3rd party equipment requirements such as fans, filters, valves and manual handling equipment.
- Ensure designs take into consideration access, maintenance, manufacturing and assembly limitations.
- Take an active role at design reviews and project meetings.
- Produce engineering documentation packages including Parts Lists, Manufacturing Drawing Packs and Production Handover Packs.
- Maintain strict adherence to information and document version control, issuing engineering change notices where appropriate.
- Prioritise workload, ensuring deadlines are maintained consistently.
- To realise or establish any potential design related risks to project cost or delivery.
- Consider the safety of proposed equipment through risk assessment, in line with international quality standards.
- Consider all relevant Directives and Industry Standards in the design of equipment.
- While the role is predominantly office/home based (90% approx.), some worldwide travel may be expected in order to attend project, client or supplier meetings.
- Any other reasonable activity requested by line manager or Directors.
Qualifications & Preferred Skills
- Min. 10 Years proven experience of a similar role in a design office environment.
- Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD or similar packages.
- Experience of Autodesk Vault Data Management Software or similar is preferable.
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, materials and stainless Steel fabrication.
- Be able to decipher P&ID and have experience of integrating control systems within mechanical design.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical process, containment systems, applications and other associated equipment is desirable.
- Experience of working to technical standards and directives. Knowledge of CE requirements, ATEX, Cleanroom Standards and/or Pharmaceutical Containment Standards are desirable.
